Minutes
| | David Dudek made a motion to accept the minutes from the July UNC meeting, Beth Shafran-Mukai seconded the motion, the motion was approved by voice vote.

New Business
| | Lisa Jensen reported that David Budd has moved out of the UNC area and has resigned his position on the board.

| | Ken Podgorsek reported that with David Budd's resignation, the UNC needs to find a new Treasurer. Ken is looking for volunteers and will handle the Treasurer's duties until a new Treasure is elected.

| | Motion to fill vacant At Large seat on the UNC Board
|
| | Ken Podgorsek made a motion that Judy Connor be appointed to an "At Large" position ending November 2002. David Dudek seconded the motion. The motion was approved on voice vote.

| | Motion to support a letter to RDA requesting a consultation with UNC regarding types of street trees planted in University Neighborhoods.
|
| | After discussion by the UNC board, David Dudek made a motion that we support this letter with the addition of a list of preferred trees and the preference against removing mature trees. Sharon Wiley seconded the motion. Ken Podgorsek offered a friendly amendment not to add the list at this letter, since the Board has not seen the list of preferred trees. Beth Shafran-Mukai offered an amendment that the letter include language asking that the City of San Jose include the UNC in its discussion of any large tree planting project in the University Neighborhoods.

| | David Dudek supported his motion with the amendments. Judy Conner seconded that support. The motion was approved on voice vote with David Dudek and David Gutierrez abstaining.

| | Tree Planting on 10th and 11th Streets
|
| | Ken Podgorsek reported that the Campus Community Association (CCA) has been working to get elm trees replanted in the University neighborhoods. A planting of 150 to 200 new elm trees is scheduled for November 9, 2002. The trees will be a memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001.

| | Measure F - November Ballot Measure to raise money to expand the San Jose Convention Center
|
| | Dan Fenton (San Jose Chamber of Commerce) gave a presentation on the ballot measure. The measure will raise visitor taxes from 10% to 14%, with the proceeds of this incremental tax going to fund an expansion of the San Jose Convention Center. The board was asked to support this issue. After discussion, the Board declined to act.

Old Business
| | Beth Shafran-Mukai reported that she has been a member of the PAC since June. She will be sending the Board the PAC agenda before each meeting and her synopsis after each meeting. At the last meeting, discussion on the Coyote Creek trail was continued to the next meeting. The rest of the meeting covered procedural issues on how the PAC operated.

Announcements
| | Kappa Sigma collecting cans in University neighborhoods from October 28-31. They will also be having a pumpkin party.

| | Party at SJSU Student Union
|
| | There will be a large party this coming Saturday (9/14/02) at the SJSU Student Union.
|
| | Anh Nguyen announced that the United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County will be holding their annual conference on Saturday, October 12, 2002.

| | Introduction of Loren Due
|
| | Loren Due introduced himself as the new SNI code enforcement officer for the University neighborhoods. Loren also provided an updates on actions on a house on 6th street adjacent to 7-11 and a business operating out of a house on the corner of 9th and William Sts.

| | Ken Podgorsek announced that UNC Board elections will be taking place at the November UNC General meeting.
|
| | Laura Lam announced that the City will be doing service projects as a 9/11 Memorial on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 between 1-4 pm.

Motion to adjourn by David Dudek, seconded by Ken Podgorsek, approved by voice vote at 8:10 PM.
