Minutes
 Approval of the minutes for the February and March meetings was continued to May
Update on the Greek Life Task Force - Monica Rascoe
 Monica presented a brief overview of the history of the task force, the impetus for its creation, participants and conclusions. The full report for the task force may be found at: www.sjsu.edu/president/reports/greek
 The task force was created in response to a fight between two rival Fraternities which left one student dead in January of 2003
 The task force included 21 members representing SJSU staff (7), students (6), alumni (5), and community (3)
SJSU Town Gown Forum, UNC co-sponsorship - Tom Clifton
 SJSU requested co-sponsorship of its annual Town and Gown forum. The UNC’s responsibilities as co-sponsor would include: participation and notification to the broader University neighborhood.
 Ken Podgorsek made a motion to have the UNC act as co-sponsor, Trisha Wells seconded the motion. A friendly amendment was made by Lisa Jensen to request the forum occur at a time when working members of the community would be able to attend, Walker Kellogg suggested a time of 6pm. The amendment was accepted by Ken and the motion carried unanimously.
 Monica Rascoe indicated the date and time to be 4/26/2004 at 4:30pm for this years forum.
Letter in Support of City Year’s Cowell Foundation Grant - Lisa Jensen
 Lisa Jensen requested the UNC write a letter of support of a grant application being made by City Year to the Cowell Foundation. Matt Perault of City Year explained the grant was a neighborhood focused grant and if approved could mean additional funding for other non-profits within the neighborhoods served by City Year.
 Lisa made a motion to send a letter of support, Ken made a friendly amendment to have the letter reviewed and approved by the officers with the letter distributed to the general board. The motion carried unanimously.
Neighborhood Improvement Grants - Ken Podgorsek
 Ken Podgorsek presented the Grant Review Committee recommendations to the board for review and approval. They are summarized as follows:

O’Donnell’s Gardens park Update - Lisa Jensen
 Groundbreaking for the park will take place on Saturday June 12, 2004! The subcommittee will meet soon to begin in earnest the preparation for the groundbreaking ceremony and celebration.
UNC Treasurers Report - Ken Podgorsek
 $100.55 spent in previous month on 9 year renewal of internet domain name and postage.
SNI PAC Update - Beth Shafran-Mukai
 Continued ongoing challenges face the PAC and the neighborhoods. Decreased funding this year with coming years unpredictable. PAC working to retain membership and continue beneficial efforts.
San Jose Medical Center Update - Nancy Hickey
 The committee is investigating the possibility of creation of a hospital district. HCA offered funding for the required impact study with the caveat that they define study criteria.
6th and Reed Pedestrian Corridor Improvements - Al Gonzalez
 Al Gonzalez (DOT) presented plans for improvements to the intersection which will support a planned pedestrian corridor. He expects the project to go out to bid in May. Following review by the board Ken made a motion that the board support the plans, a 2nd was made by Lisa and the motion passed unanimously.
Oral Communications
 Trisha Wells announced she is resigning from the board to take a position at a different University. She is working with various groups at SJSU to identify an appropriate replacement.
 Walker Kellogg voiced appreciation and support for continued attendance by Fraternity and Sorority members with a request to agendize at the next meeting discussion for building attendance.
Motion to Adjourn was made by David Dudek at 8:15, second by multiple boardmembers. The motion was approved.
